I'm glad to hear she's safe! We have about an acre fenced, and when I took Caesar as a foster, I went around and checked every inch of it. I'd never fostered such a little dog!
Several years ago, when we had our two lab/mixes and a doberman girl names Jinx, we had a horrible storm with trees and limbs down. We were clearing and cleaning up, but I didn't even think about walking the fence, and since we are mostly woods, I am not able to see the fence line. About a week later, my neighbor, a couple of houses down, called to say my two boys were at his house. (He takes care of our dogs and vice versa.) I couldn't belive it. I'd just let them out! I went out, and my dobe was at the door, ready to come in, so I brought the dogs home and then went out and walked the fence and found a whole tree had come down across the fence n the back corner. Either they didn't notice for a week, or they just didn't care. Needless to say, everytime we have a good storm, I go out and walk the fence.
