Tracy,
I have 7 chihuahuas. Trust me - they know and recognize their own
breed and usually dislike anything else. Sometimes they tolerate
other breeds but mine ALL get along with each other, and only the baby
(Max) came in as a puppy -- the others were all adults that I rescued.
>From my experience with my babies, gender has nothing to do with alpha
position so get whatever gender you want. I adore my girls but my
boys cuddle more with me. My two youngest boys are BEST friends and
play ALL the time.
If you're really concerned about it, why don't you contact a local
rescue group and see if you could foster for a little while? You'll
be doing a good deed and you'll see how your baby gets along with a
newcomer...
Best of luck to you! But BEWARE! I started with one and now look at me!!!
