My female went into heat around the first of the month and she was a virgin, so
was my male, they were both very interested in each other and finally I saw
them together on the 20th. Since then they have been together many many times
every day, I'm sure I don't even see every time LOL but it usually lasts 15 or
so min.
The male is about a pound smaller than the female and an inch or so shorter
(in length and height) than her.
Sometimes he is "doggy style" sometimes they are end to end LOL.

The thing I have noticed is he is now very protective of her and if we let
her out by herself he whines and barks and carries on. This is a dog who never
barks!
A lot of times they had slept in their own beds, sometimes together but now
they are mostly almost always together.

so FYI this is how it has been for my two

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Breeding Help

Okay...I've bred dogs before, and cats and rats...even done it myself
once.. LOL..

But this is the first time I've owned the male dog and I'm a little unsure of
what's happeneing, supposed to happen, etc. Could someone please help me with
a little 101?

I have two females in season. According to the calendar, one should be ready
to accept the male today and the other on Saturday. He is interested and seems
to be making all the right moves. One of my females is the mother of the other
one, so one has had a litter (the one who should be ready on Saturday). The
daughter is a "virgin" but should be ready today.

He has made advances toward the daughter and she backs up to him with her
tail cocked to the side, but when he tried to tie, she screamed like he was
killing her! She broke the tie and the poor fellow's...well...thing...was
still very distended. He kept looking at it like..."what am I supposed to do
with it now?" I was clueless but I felt bad for the poor guy. I know that
sometimes you need to hold the female to keep her from pulling on him like
that, but I didn't get across the room quick enough.

Did something bad happen? Did it go as it was supposed to? How long do they
generally stay "tied" once they are together? Does the male "retract" when
he's done or is that normal that it should be distended like that afterward?

  Thanks...sorry for all the questions.
