Thank you so much for the info...I do understand they are like humans - and have to be on meds their whole lives. My cousin used to get them when a teenager, then one day 33 years old, they stopped! we figured it was a miracle!
I pray it wasn't that way for either pooch or humans! Blessings, Gloria C --- In [email protected], Stefanie Brannan <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > > Hi Gloria. It's my Australian Shepherd that has the seizures. My Chihuahua doesn't have them. My Aussie started having them at about 2 years old. She's now almost 3. The vet has her on Potassium Bromide to control them. Most dogs get put on Phenobarbital (sp?) but it can cause liver problems. My vet wanted to try Potassium Bromide (a little safer) first and she is doing well on it. The idea is to lesson the amount of seizures. There is no cure for epilepsy in canines, just like in humans. Common with this breed?? One of my dogs has seizures and they never last longer than a minute or two at the most. And afterward, she is very out of it and takes a long time to recover. When she has seizures, her whole body goes rigid, her eyes and mouth open and she salivates. It's very obvious that she is seizing. > > > > Your guy was probably in deep REM sleep and dreaming. When puppies dream heavily, they sometimes move their legs as if they are "running". They also make little noises sometimes. They are sometime hard to awaken, too. You might want to check with your vet just in case, though. But I really wouldn't worry about it. > > > > Stefanie > > >
