I keep my dogs in a crate when we travel.  It's just too dangerous otherwise.
I might eventually try one of those dog seats for small dogs for my Chi. They
have belts that strap them in but they can sit up high to see out of the window.

As far as the car sickness, I was told by my vet to try Bonine (similar to
Drammamine and sold in drugstores overcounter).  It worked wonders!  No more
car sickness!

Those interested in trying it should contact their vets to see if it's okay.
But, it's so much eaiser to travel with my dogs now that I started using it.

My daughter's dog use to get sick like that too. Don't know what she did but
she no longer gets sick when she rides in a car seat. She just refused to
take the dog until she could. It is just too dangerous.

I used to use a car seat but Tia hated it and would vomit horribly when
it.. Now she lays on my lap if I am driving and on my shoulder if I am not

When you are in the car with your chi/s, are they free or in a seatbelt,
carrier? We've been
doing a lot more driving lately with the dogs and one lays on my shoulders,
kinda like a neck
pillow and the other on my husbands lap. We love having them close but I get
worried that if
we are in an accident they will be thrown about the car. I have been looking
at all different
seat belts, carriers etc and was wondering if anyone here has used them and
what they did or
didn't like about it. I hate to not have them on my lap or shoulders, but a
dear friend of mine
was in a truck accident and her border collie was thrown from the vehicle
and killed. It's
making me think twice!
