I do the same thing as Addy...they are in crates with their flufy beds,
and the crate is belted down.  I have had them loose before ~ but if I
(god forbid) get into an accident, their little bodies will be flying
around, get injured by the air bags , etc...

at times when it's a quick trip to gramma - they are loose - I should
make it a habit of them being in a crate.

I harness and belt down my big dogs though - if loose they can actually
kill me...just as another person over 100lbs flying around.
