I would treat him in the same manner I like people to treat me. Make sure there is sufficient LIGHT....we use our eyes to compensate for our lack of hearing! Get our attention!! Do not come up behind us and "pet us" (ok..that may be weird to comapre to a human, lol) appraoch from the front, so we know you are there. Teach some basic sign. Doesn't even have to be a "real" sign...make something up. For instance, everytime you take him to potty, show a specific hand sign so he learns that that sign means going to potty. Make a sign for food and water as well. A sign for come, ect...well you get the point. Just keep in mind that everything is visual. We may seem crazy or demented sometimes, but it is only because we don't have a clue what is going on!! lol. Also, forget the squeeky toys ect for entertainment. ...make sure the things available to entertain him are things that apply to the other senses. It will take time to adjust, but he will do fine as long as you do your part in remembering that we live in a totally different world than the hearies do :-) Marsha > Jimmy is going through a change.
