Sounds like a lot of food, depends on the portions and how often he's fed. Cesar eats dry Merrick, about 1/4 of a cup in the morning and a 1/4 of a cup in the evening, over it I sprinkle tiny pieces of his favorite treat, 2 training pellets that I cut into four pieces each. He then gets either 1 mini raw carrots, cut into 4 pieces length wise, or 3 raw green beans as treats in mid-afternoon. I worried that he wasn't getting enough food but the vet said it was good and that he weight and coat showed that he eats well. Gloria P In a message dated 10/12/2008 6:32:01 P.M. My doggie Little Bear has become so overweight. He is about 2 yrs old. A while back the vet suggested that we feed him only dog food, but this just isn't possible. I've been feeding my dogs canned Pedigree for many years with no problems, but I try to feed them real chicken or beef when I can. Little Bear doesn't seem to know when to stop eating. He will clean up his plate and then go to the other's plates to steal more. I usually have to stand over them while they eat so that he won't devour their food too. Even though it seems to me that I'm not overfeeding, he still gains the weight. I keep doggie treats in their snack bowl, but they only pick a few daily (the bowl isn't cleaned out). I do occasionally give them table scraps (sausage left over from breakfast, or left over meat), but not very often. Some days I boil frozen chicken tenderloins, or grill a hamburger or steak. I've been backing off from the canned food due to what I've been reading about how its made, seems gross, to a point that I feel guilty giving it to them. I've feed them Pedigree for years. Sometime I feed them EN from the vet (he suggests this). Any suggestions for cutting down his weight? I feed my dogs twice a day.
