On Mother's day, we burried my grandma. She was 98. Untill the last 6 months of her life, she was an active lady who lived alone, took care of her own bills, cooked her own meals, kept her own house, ect. It is discrimination BIG time to say someone should not have a pet based on their age alone. No, you don't know for sure probably (those terms are contradictory) that a pup will outlive an elderly person. Anything could happen to shorten the life of a dog just like anything could happen to shorten the life of a human. No one denies that everyone should take measures to assure their pets are cared for after their deaths, but no one has a right to determine that someone else should or should not have a pet based on their age. It is kinda the same deal and when it was spoken in court that I should not have custody of my children because I am Deaf and being Deaf could be a danger to the kids. Bull crap. Disabled people, elderly people, whatever, are as entitled to their pets as much as anyone else so long as they are properly caring for them and if a young vibrant woman is suddenly struck by cancer and told she has 6 months to live and wants to get a pup to keep her company during those 6 months, more power to her!!! If an elderly person wants the companionship and unfaltering love of a dog during the final chapter of their life....more power to them!!! Marsha
