As for dying you babies with approved hair dye for pets or even using beet juice, I do not feet it will hurt your pets. But, you may need to check with your local laws on dyeing of animals. Boulder CO, has the following law on the books: "Section 6-1-14 of Boulder's city code, titled "Dyeing fowl and rabbits prohibited" reads: "No person shall dye or color live fowl, rabbits or any other animals or have in possession, display, sell or give away such dyed or colored animals."" In 2008, a Boulder salon owner was cited with a $1,000 fine for dyeing her poodle pink. I do not remember the outcome of the case, I think the judge just said do not do it again. There were many different sides to the story on why the poodle was dyed pink. The law was setup to stop people from dyeing chicks for Easter events but they extended to all animals. Their little shasay walk will be a natural hula dance. It'd be cool, if you could carry an Ipod or whatever with hawaiian music going as you walk with them. Maybe even hand out leis. Go for the hippie look - headband, sunglasses, peace sign necklace, leg bands or decorate a shirt with peace signs and flowers. And you dress accordingly and throw flowers out to the crowd as y'all strut your stuff. One last idea. Will it hurt the babies if you spray them with the spray-in hair color? If your town has a favorite team, you could paint them in the team colors and logo. If the spray color is safe, paint your dogs to look like jungle animals; a zebra, lion (get old hair extensions or a wig and cut it to fit as a lion's mane. Don't forget to add it to their tails too) Hope some of this helps. Many of the costumes for Fantasy Fest, especially the competitions, are unique works of art, taking months of work & $100's, if not 1000's, of $$.
