With clear mucous, low grade fever, sounds viral. The doxy is to prevent a secondary bacterial infection, (they are usually much worse). I would stick with the doxy, give plenty of water. Your doing everything right. I would expect from the very beginning of symptoms, to the end, would be a couple of weeks, give or take a couple of days.
The only time you have to worry about doxy is if they still have baby teeth, it will stain them. Sometimes they get a little diarrhea, which is not uncommon for any antibiotic. You can always check the correct dosage of any medication online.
