Hi Amanda. I guess I missed some posts about your husband coming back to you after he found out that the grass is not greener on the other side
This is MY opinion: Yes…there are a lot of Chihuahuas in shelters. There are many people that want to adopt pets that are already adults and most of the time they are potty trained. Then, there are people that really want a puppy which they can bond with from puppyhood and teach them the rules of the house that they are going to be required to follow. They can be easily trained from being a puppy and not always that easy when they are full grown. The issue is actually about the same as what cars people buy…some always buy new, some always buy used, and some it really doesn’t matter. My opinion…I have some pretty serious health issues. I cannot spend months or even the rest of my life trying to retrain a dog who may not have been trained in the beginning. There are also the aggression issues…I think that when a puppy is raised with love being the way to train, then they are pretty much molded to the way that the owner wants them. I have two Chihuahuas…one I got from a pet store, and one I got from a local breeder. I have raised each of them since they were 8 weeks old. They are very well-adjusted. And, contrary to a lot of common belief, my Chihuahuas are not aggressive or mean. However, a Chihuahua not properly trained as a puppy that is mean and aggressive is sometimes hard to break of those habits. Some people have small children and would prefer a puppy because a rescued dog could have been trained incorrectly and therefore might be so aggressive…and not something that you want around small children. So, there are attitudes on both sides of the fence. I did not rescue my dogs from a shelter…but I DID RESCUE them from a pet store and a breeder and they were already born…I did not ask someone to breed their dogs so I could have a puppy. I sincerely hope that all the dogs in the shelters be adopted. I wish that I could adopt from the shelter but I already have as many dogs as my HOA allows. But, there are only so many people that want to get a dog…if they go to the shelter then they have saved the life of a dog in the shelter, but that also may send a puppy to a shelter because the person that may have bought them actually bought a dog from a shelter. It is really not a story of too many dogs in a shelter because of breeders…it is a story of not enough people wanting to have a dog and/or cat and therefore there is more supply than demand. I’m not sure how to turn that around…but with Amanda giving the puppies to a good home tells me that she may not be a ‘breeder’ but she does care what happens to the puppies…better to find them good homes and not get any money from them, than to hold on to them and ultimately not find a home for them and then they do go to a shelter. No I am not a breeder, just an owner who didnt get her girls fixed yet. I thought I had them separated but as we see, no such luck. I do not sell dogs, they all go free to good loving homes and I am careful with my selections. I have never sent a dog to the pound and I never will. I will keep them as long as it takes to find good forever homes. Im sorry if that upsets anyone on here. I usually am good at avoiding litters but with the mess my life has been at my husband's betrayal and not used to being alone, they slipped past me. I apologize for that. After a month away my husband has returned, his mistress kicked him out and he has no where else to go. He is sleeping on my couch, mourning her. I however am trying to get over him. I thank you all for your love and support during my hard times. And I will keep you all informed of how Amber and her babies are doing. <http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/40.gif> Have A Beautiful Day, Each And Every Day! <http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/40.gif> --- On Fri, 2/25/11, dasha <[email protected]> wrote: From: dasha <[email protected]> Subject: RE: [Chihuahuas] Babies!!! To: [email protected] Date: Friday, February 25, 2011, 5:33 AM There are breeders on this list. If you disagree with breeding as a whole and don't like debates (friendly for the most part) this may not be the list for you. I don't think it says anything on the group pages about this being a "rescue promoting" group. And the shelters are not the same everywhere. Some states have hardly any dogs in shelters and some are over run. Rescue and transport tries to help out in that area. So please don't judge all breeders as the same _____ From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Becky Sent: Thursday, February 24, 2011 9:38 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] Babies!!! I noticed the puppies available for adoption. I'm curious about why the dog had puppies? Was it already pregnant when you got it? I'm confused because I thought this was a rescue promoting group and not a breeder friendly list. It concerns me because there are so many chihuahuas in the shelter in need of a home. It seems pit bulls and chihuahuas are most often destroyed. Please clarify so that I know if I am on the appropriate list for my own personal convictions. She had seven in all but one little boy didnt make it so she has six alive and well. Three boys and three girls, all so adorable! Over the weeks tto come I will get better pictures and keep you all updated. If you know anyone in the Mayfield, KY area who can give a good home to these babies they are going free to good homes. They are full blooded chihuahua but not registered. Also BlueBelle is due any time as well so sadly there will be several more babies that need good homes. Will keep you all posted. <http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/40.gif> Have A Beautiful Day, Each And Every Day! <http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/tsmileys2/40.gif>
