I think that most Vets tell people not to give it to dogs, because of the possible side effects that this link explains. Most people wouldn't know the correct dose unless they called their Vet first. Also unless previous blood test have been done to rule out any liver disorders, because the liver has to clean out any foreign matter which meds are, so again most Vets don't want the average pet owner to use it. Even the link gives you a warning, so better safe then sorry, unless you call your Vet first and he says okay.
Their are more natural ways to get rid of a mild case of diarrhea, such as using Plain Pumpkin, and even with that, the dosage has to be small, for dogs under 10 lbs, 1/2 tsp , 2x a day usually works the next day. I prefer this because it is a more natural remedy and instead of binding up the dog which Immodium Id does, and for that matter so does the chicken and rice, the pumpkin just naturally adjust the intestinal track to work normally, and their are no cramps. If the diarrhea is bad for the first day, then Nutra-Cal should also be given to replenish the lost electrolytes and ward off Dehydration. So checking to make sure that the dog is still drinking enough is important too. Hello: One other group I do belong to is one dealing with Cushings in dogs. They do promote the use of Pepto. I did a quick search -- please look at this web site and see what you think. http://www.vetinfo.com/dog-pepto-bismol.html From: Peggy & The Girls <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sun, February 27, 2011 11:25:03 PM Subject: Re: [Chihuahuas] What do I do for my dog since she has diarrhea?
