My female, purebred Chi is 6 months old. I got her when she was 4 months. She
seems very smart, usually "getting" training very quickly - after only 2 or 3
tries.
One thing that is taking a long time is housetraining. I'm using the method of
ignoring mistakes in the house and praising when she goes outside. She knows
absolutely where she's supposed to go and runs for it when we get up in the
mornings and any other time I say "want to go OUTSIDE?". However, if she wants
to go when in the house and if I don't notice, she will just go wherever she
is. I did try once scolding her for going in the house but she is so timid
that she ended up cowering as if I was going to hit her (which I have never
done. Don't know what happened before I got her.) As a result i keep her
leashed all the time she's in the house and have to hold the leash all the time
so I can see where she is/what she's doing. I take her out every 1.5 to 2
hours which seems to be enough. No mistakes when leashed in house.
Any ideas/suggestions from long time Chi parents? Lily is my first Chi.
