I don't like the idea of having her on a leash the entire time she's in the
house. Have you tried pee pads or a litter box? To get her started, you
can sop up some of her urine onto the pad or a newspaper used to line the
litter box, most dogs will sniff around and know that's where to go. When
she gives you the body language that means she has to go, put her on the pad
or in the box. If she uses it, praise her. Emiliano uses his litter box
when I am gone for long periods of time or when the weather is bad. If I
am home to let him out, he goes outside.

My female, purebred Chi is 6 months old. I got her when she was 4 months.
She seems very smart, usually "getting" training very quickly - after only 2
 or 3 tries.

One thing that is taking a long time is housetraining. I'm using the
method of ignoring mistakes in the house and praising when she goes outside.
She
knows absolutely where she's supposed to go and runs for it when we get up
in the mornings and any other time I say "want to go OUTSIDE?". However,
if she wants to go when in the house and if I don't notice, she will just go
wherever she is. I did try once scolding her for going in the house but
she is so timid that she ended up cowering as if I was going to hit her
(which I have never done. Don't know what happened before I got her.) As a
result i keep her leashed all the time she's in the house and have to hold the
leash all the time so I can see where she is/what she's doing. I take her out
every 1.5 to 2 hours which seems to be enough. No mistakes when leashed in
 house.

Any ideas/suggestions from long time Chi parents? Lily is my first Chi.
