MY husband's dog, a Jack Russell, is a obsessive compulsive licker.  He will
lick himself, the carpet, the bed..anything that has dog hair on it.  Has been
doing it for years and am surprised he hasn't run into that problem too.  His
stool is always covered in dog hair. They say this behavior can be caused by
allergies, which he has in plenty.

Subject: [Chihuahuas] Nikki Had a Hairball

Nikki, who is 2.5 years old and weighs just 4 lbs, was rushed to the vet a few
weeks ago, and after 2 blood transfusions, emergency surgery, and 25 staples in
his little tummy, it was discovered that he had a hairball the size of my
little finger! He stayed at the vet's for a total of 4 days. Yes, he does lick
himself a lot and we do have two Samoyeds with long hair. Has anyone else had
this problem? Our vet suggested giving him a dab - like 1 mil - of olive oil
every once in a while to help move things along in his tummy. He is fine now,
back to his normal self of protecting Mom and trying to put the Sammies, one of
whom is 45 lbs, the other is 65 lbs, in their place which he does very well,
thank you. On the other hand, it could be the Sammies just ignore him!
