My dad had 5 bypass surgery last year at 83 and did great! You are so fortunate they caught it before it burst. Yes they use a ventilator but just for the surgery and until they are awake and breathing on their own. It will be scary the first time you see him after the surgery because of all the tubes, etc but they recover very fast. Sending prayers for both of you! Sue, R.N.
