[Chihuahuas] spay small dogs

I have to get both of my rescue dogs spayed and they're 3 1/2 pounds I just 
wondered if the small ones go through it just like the larger chi's thanks.  I 
mean the aftermath healing. The vet said he thinks the one had it done cause of 
a rise in the skin but that there is no actual way to know without opening them 
up.
