My Desi Lou has gone through this same thing. First the vet said to give him 1/4 of a 25mg Benadryl twice a day. I did that along with giving him some Lipiderm. Then after he had to be hospitalized for enteritis (from eating a large muffin paper as I walked to the door for five seconds) the vet had me stop the Benadryl. He was still scratching a bit, but then he developed huge hives under his chin and on his chest. I took him back to the vet (my vet was not there that day) and she did skin scrapings, but no demondic mange. She had me start him back on the Benadryl until my vet came back in two days. My vet has him on 1/4 Benadryl twice a day, a Lipiderm a day, and oatmeal bath every day if I can. He is Chocolate and it was very noticeable where he had scratched his fur off, and right now he is still a little thin around his ears, and the area directly next to his ears on the top and back are filling in , but slowly.
I would get a good oatmeal shampoo and maybe give two baths a day along with the Benadryl (he is about 8 lbs, so you may need to check with your vet how much to give him). The Lipiderm works to stop the dryness, but if he has allergies the bath and Lipiderm helps the symptons but he would probably require Benadryl or other antihistabmine that your vet recommends in order to control the allercy that starts the scratching. --- In [email protected], "richard" <rlamb2525@...> wrote: > > We would like some help.
