I found Gigi on e-bay classified for free......that's just as bad as being
on Craigs list. A college girl had her for a month, and said she got her
from a woman on the same list, who had her for two months, and said she got
her from a shelter. That would make me her fourth home in 3 months. But when
I asked the girl to email the woman for her copy of her shots or her rabies
tag, she said that the woman said she didn't have any medical records as she
came from a shelter. That was an obvious lie, since shelters won't release
a dog without the shot and tag. Gigi was also a lot older then the girl was
told, had very bad teeth and went into a bad heavy heat during the first
week that I had her. Plus she had several c-section scars. Her stomach was
black from newspaper print, which took many baths to get it pink again. All
the tell tale signs that the woman was a BYB. The woman knew she was getting
to old to breed and that she always needs c-sections, so why not just toss
her to the wolves!

Gigi had to have belonged to some one at one time who took good care of her.
She is way to sweet, and doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She walks and
heels perfectly on a leash, loves to be brushed, loves to be dressed, and
absolutely loves walking. She was housebroken by the second month. She is
not a yapper, and stops barking the very first time I say quiet. She would
be happy to be in my lap 24/7 if I let her. She has no fears, gets along
with other dogs, loves people. She cost a mint in Vet bills, cause she has
liver issues, plus all the original testing and teeth removal and cleaning
and spaying and blood test every 3-4 months to see how her liver is doing.
She was estimated to be about 5 yrs old when I took her three years ago. I
have no regrets about taking her as I knew she needed vetting when I first
saw her, and she sooo deserves a life of just being a loved dog and not
making money for some selfish uncaring human. She is my Sunshine!

Monte was one of the many Chis in Hillsborough A S and he would have been
dead in a few days. Although skinny from lack of proper food he is the
perfectly behaved sound pet chi. He was friendly at the vet which none of my
toy breeds are, housebroken, great with my dog pack, 4yrs old and obeidient.
Why he wasn't redeemed by his owner I will never know. And he is a small guy
which shouldn't be over 5lbs. Miami Dade always has several Chihuahuas as
well and most end up dead. Many are under the 6lbs weight limit but many are
BYB/PM dogs at 10-12lbs. But even being a 4lb and 4yr old doesn't guarantee
you will live just like Monte. Chi Rescues are mostly full to capacity.
Craigslist has them free to good homes which ends up being Pitbull bait but
Pit people have paid $150 for one dog they used as bait and then tossed out
of the truck.

It's time for mommy and pups to be checked by a Vet anyway. They are due for
their shots and first worming. Worms can cause coughing. There are many
different types of worms that they can get. Not all can be seen with the
naked eye. Heart problems can also cause coughing, as well as several virus
s that pups can get. Also if water, food, goes in reverse because of some
blockage that can also cause coughing, so can a cold, or pneumonia. It's not
normal for a 6 week old pup to display coughing, so he needs a Vet to
determine what is causing it. Waiting to see if it will get worse, will only
end up causing him to be sicker and cost more at the Vet.

If the mother was up to date with her shots, then she passed on her immunity
to the pups for the first few weeks, but after that the immunity level
becomes less and less and then the pups can pick up many of the canine virus
s out there.

Why are you breeding pet quality chis anyway? There are over 17,000
chihuahuas on Petfinders that need homes, and 80% of them are from owners
who just had to breed their pet instead of spaying and neutering them. I
hope you spay and neuter the parents as well as the pups before you place
them in homes, as you will just be adding to the problem. That figure doesn
t even include the thousands that are euthanized every day at shelters
across the states for lack of space to hold them and lack of homes that want
them. You do realize that within the first year of the pups lives if they
each have 5 pups that's 20 more homes that will be needed. Could you find 20
permanent homes plus the ones you have? I don't think so. Statistics show
that only 3 out of the 20 will actually stay in a permanent home. The others
will be shuffled around, most ending up in a shelter before it's 3rd
birthday and most of them will be euthanized for lack of a home. This is
why there are so many on petfinders and so many being killed every day. So
please spay and neuter them all.

On March 2 we had 5 beautiful chi pups. Mom and babies are doing great..
with one exception . I came downstairs this morning and one pup was coughing
My husband said he just started a few minutes earlier. (Trouble is his
name) Trouble doesn't do it constantly just every now and then. Hubby said
to hold off and see if it gets worse then we will take him to the vet..None
of the others are doing it.

Do pups cough if the have worms ? I haven't seen any of them either. How can
you tell if they have worms ?

Thanks for any info.
