You will get as many answers as there is dog food..lol. Meat, fish or fowl
should be at least the first ingredient. I have fed the same food for over 30
yrs and after I switched my dogs lived longer healthier lives. Bruts, 15+, just
had a vet visit and like my older dogs still has perfect eyesight and hearing,
from what we could tell since he can't put a paw over one eye and read a chart.
Teeth are in good shape except 2 loose incisors which have been that way for
yrs. He can still leap on the couch and he is a small MinPin at 6.5lbs and 11".
None of my older,13+, guys have had eyesight or hearing loss. I have tried the
more expensive holistic brands and had poor results. I tried a large.bag of 2
diff brands about a year apart and both times HoneyB had ruptured abcesses anal
glands and the other pins had to be expressed. On the food I feed none have had
anal gland problems and much to my dogs inital huh I do check..lol. I haven't
gone the BARF route due to expense and seeing a kennel of handsome GSDs go
downhill on it plus a mini wire dach look like hell on it. I have fed raw
chicken and turkey necks, and some bones tho. So ask your vet, a holistic pet
store and do online research. But stay away from grocery store brands for the
most part.

Hi everyone,

I am a new member to the group. I will be rescuing a Chihuahua sometime
tomorrow and this is the first time I have ever had a small dog. I've always
had big dogs all throughout my life but am wanting to get a small dog this
time. I am wondering if you can give me recommendations on what type of dog
food would be best. The dog that we recently had to have put to sleep was on a
home cooked diet and I'm not sure I want to go that route again. Thanks for any
suggestions. I look forward to learning much about my new little friend.

Melissa
