Well Peter, as you are no doubt aware, it is not permitted in Oz to operate a mobile phone near a fuel pump. Just look at the safety signs. The probability of danger is small but not zero. The energy emitted by the mobile can be picked up by any metal object and, under the right circumstances, a spark can be generated.
