Forty people (23% of the company) were laid off at the company I worked for Tuesday. I was one of the 40 people. Anyone need someone with design and programming skills? I'm about 90 miles north of Pittsburgh PA. Last week the boss had a meeting with us, and asked for voluntary layoffs. After that meeting, I went back to my desk and packed up all of my personal effects in to a box, and pushed it under my table. People though I was nuts for doing that. I've always been good at predicting the future (controlling the direction of the future?), need to get better at that... Officially, there was no notice of the lay off. I was in the back of the shop looking for wire in the warehouse, for a project that had to ship at the end of this month. The boss came in at 2:45 and said there was a meeting right now in the department mangers office. Six others where in the room when I got there. Manger said "Sorry to do this. Turn in your keys, and if you have one the company credit card". I was the only one with the card. You will be escorted to your desk to pick up your personal effects, and escorted out of the building. Great way to end 20 years of service. Since my box was already packed I just picked it up and left. It was about 2:55. Seems like they went after the people that used the company health insurance, or had been there the longest. I was there for 20+ years. They are giving us one week of pay. The pink slip said we could keep our insurance for just me at $260, or for both wife and I at $600 per month. I'm looking around locally, but the out look is not that great, so if you hear of any thing...
