I would check out Xicor's offerings. They have several designs with 
unusual pin arrangements (e.g. ram/eeprom on a single chip with one 
line controlling memory type). Ditto Dallas Semiconductor, who have 
some original or strange ideas.

Another line of attack is to check the ram databooks for 8 pin packages.
