Thanks everyone for the advice.

Ramtron:
The ramtron is interesting but relatively expensive (2.5 times the cost of
the same amount of eeprom). @100 pieces, 16kx8 is about $4 and 32k is about
$6. Its in the ball park, though and pin compatible to the eeprom I am
prototyping with. They have some parts that claim unlimited reads and
writes (note with FRAM, reads ware out the parts same as writes)

Dallas One wire:
These are all very low densities.

Xicor:
Their serial chips are all low densities (1k) NV, but with above average
write cycles (1,000,000), so not good for me. Thanks for pointing them out,
though.

PLD:
I have wanted to play around with these for I while. I wonder if it would
be cost effective to use one as a serial RAM. I definitely can't take on
the learning curve of a new technology at this point though.

Parallel RAM:
I already have an 8 bit bus for a display, so I could use a parallel RAM
with a latch on the bus for the address. A serial RAM would be so much
easier, but I guess I can't just wish for a part to exist. It will come
down to adding up the cost of the RAM, latch and increased board size and
seeing how it compares to the cost of the Ramtron.

Sunplus:
Exactly what I need, but in die form. Hmmm, maybe some epoxy and 8 tiny
pieces of wire... :)

My Application:
... is a networked music player. The remote display unit is powered by a
PIC with very limited RAM. The serial RAM stores a string table with all
the track and playlist data.

Yea 1E10 are not much - 3 days at 10us access time (worst case)
