W.r.t the question:

These links indeed got me the idea that made the thing operational
again. The ErgoPro X has a jumper that is marked 'reserved' on the
MB. Closing that jumper made it 're-configure' itself. Note: the BIOS
password is still there; It has 'survived' all these manipulations,
but the C-mos RAM has been re-loaded with 'default' values by a boot with
the 'reserved jumper'. The jumper is the 2-nd from the row of jumpers at 
the left side of the board.. 

Thanks to all how have responded, I'm using the machine as a QNX 6.0
internet and ISP interface computer now.
