I'd suggest some sort of solid state relay that can drive the solenoid. Crydom's 
ASO241R comes to mind. This animal can handle up to 240VAC at 1.5A inductive loads. A 
4-10VDC signal is all you need to drive it. As a plus, it gives you some isolation as 
well.
