Hi Declan,
just use a mailcap for mutt:
.muttmailcap
text/html; lynx -force_html -dump %s ; copiousoutput
application/pdf; pdf2ascii %s ; copiousoutput
application/postscript; ps2ascii %s ; copiousoutput
application/msword; antiword %s; copiousoutput
and you get all binary mails in fine text format. Works quite good. However
to avoid getting spam you should drop/delete/kill your current email and use
a new one, and publish it only a gif-image at your website (and use
formmail.cgi). I reduced the SPAM I get from >150 per day down to only 4 per
day now.
