How far can you get lifting the the files out with a hex editor? Or do
you need to get track 0 as well?

The thing is: Using a hex editor might work for one or two disks, but there are more than 1000 of them that need to be transferred. For convenience *and* safety, I'd like to read filesystem definition/docs, then write a tool, and be sure that even fragmented disks can be restored the way they should be.
