Have you tried the following?
open device manager, and seeing which com ports show, and then unplug the
cable, and see which one disappears, so you can select that port in Chirp.

I forgot that you are on Windows. The windows OS is very poor supporting
USB. You might try going into the device manager and tell it to show hidden
devices. Once that is done, look at the USB entries and delete all of them
that are diminished icons. That is, they are lighter than the other icons.

hi, still no luck.
I went to the web site and put a death-grip on the plug and held it in as far
as it would go. I trimmed a hair of the edges of the plug to let it seat on the
bottom.
