Issue 150: Type-ahead-find http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=150
Comment #13 by DarwinsKernel: Unlearning is harder than learning. As anders.widebrant pointed out "PROMOTE type-ahead-find as a key feature" just as you (the Chrome team) are trying to do with OpenSearch/Tab-completion. Only because Firefox decided not to go ahead and make this a default feature doesn't mean that you should do the same. And by the way Chrome, as of now, is used by that "niche market" you're talking about; just as Google itself was when it came out first. If evangelical users are your base right now (no pound intended) then you better give them something that makes their screen and/or experience different that others. This feature could really change the way users "browse" the web and in my understanding that exactly what Chrome's trying to accomplish here; "Developing the Web"? Making it default (or at least having the option available) might be a bold move but it will pay off because it's a clever and elegant solution just as Google's home page was when it came out first. One can think of the user as some idiot that can't figure this feature out OR you can think of the user as someone who will have fun finding out about it by the first accidental keystroke or whatever. The question is how do you think of your user? And by the way about "it can seriously confuse users" comment; with all due respect I would ask; how do you know Sir? Have you had your users complaining? Has there been a study done in that regard? What are the numbers you are looking at? Could you please share them with us? Or is it just that you assume it might be the case. I think that is prejudiced, don't you think? -- You received this message because you are listed in the owner or CC fields of this issue, or because you starred this issue.
