We have found the best approach to porting is to port the
implementation concepts, rather than specific APIs. This allows us to
do the right thing on each platform. We already have a fairly
substantial framework on Windows much of which is not inherently
Windows-specific. The folk contributing to the ports are working to
port the various components of this framework (e.g. "graphics
context") to the relevant platform.

I don't think new tools or technologies represent much of an
enhancement for us at the moment. What needs to be done is all the
required pieces need to be implemented.
