This is not a very useful feature, most of the people do not need that, or do not care about that.
But, in general, you can press Control+Shift+Delete, tick the "Clear download history" box and click on "Clear browsing data". That way, it will not open a whole new page only for clearing it. Your preference will be saved, so you only have to click on the button the next time.
