Yes, we would like to create our own toolbar, easily access stuff we bookmark, without having to download\create an extension\user script for it.Sometimes you just need shortcuts. The bookmarks bar is there, anyway, for those who enable it, taking up real estate - it might as well be more useful and customizable and contain all of the websites\bookmarklets you need, having to make the text shorter to put more bookmarks in the bar is just a waste of time and mind, when icons are much more noticeable, small and quickly recognizable. Having the default icon for every site with no favicon\bookmarklet just makes it clumsy and forces us to create redundant folders and add text to the items. (With that in mind, customizing the icons of the folders, as well, is needed. To distinguish them from regular bookmarks, you can mark them with an arrow, on top of the icon (so it will not take extra real estate that other icons could use).)
