According to Rothschild's Bank ...... sorry I mean the Federal Reserve
tables

$80 in 1967 is equivalent to $495.63 in 2008
$3000 is $18586.20

So if you had invested in TRW no pension fund

BUT had you invested in MBW well you would have a nice nest egg .........

If only we knew then what we know now .............. :-)

Subject: [ChurchillChat] the river war

I know Churchill was a young man in a hurry but why are we? I saw my
first copy of The River War at Dawson's Rare Book store in Los Angeles
in 1967. Phillip Townsend Sommerville was the bookman and the ratty
copy was only $80! But I was only 17 and that was a lot of money in
those days. I'd been acquiring Churchill books to read for two years
at that point. I really wanted a copy of TRW 2-vol edition but I knew
I'd have to be patient.

Phillip also showed me a copy of Mr. Brodrick's Army that was going
for $3000 at the time. Well spin the clock forward. I acquired a
facsimile copy of MBA by ICS Dalton Newfield for $15 or so in 1979.

I, for one, am looking forward to Jim Muller's edition (that I call
the Langworth edition in a short story I wrote called The Dream
decades ago). Jim is a genuine Churchill scholar and he will get the
best stuff to the publisher. I have great confidence in him!

BTW you can get the River War at various libraries. I looked at a copy
at the UCLA Library Rare Room in 1968 and actually checked out a copy
to take home from the Naval War College Library in 1979.

Perhaps Churchill summed this all up in 1952, "We must not lose
patience, and we must not lose hope."
