Hi All, I have set up an OpenSolaris 2008.11 server with native CIFS shares (smb/server) on ZFS. The server 'MYSERVER' has joined the AD domain (on windows 2003). We can access the share by specifying the name in Explorer, ie '\\MYSERVER\SHARE'. But the problem is that 'MYSERVER' is NOT listed in the 'My Network Places' on the clients. It is we cannot see the server when we browse the network. Clients are mostly WinXP Professional SP2 and SP3 and are all part of the AD domain.
How do I get this MYSERVER listed in the "My Network Places"? The server and clients are on the same network segment (broadcast domain). There is a master browser and there is even a WINS server. We tried statically mapping the server in the WINS but this didn't help either. We think the problem is related to the way OpenSolaris derives its NETBIOS domain. The NETBIOS (Pre-Windows 2000) domain name is ABC. The AD domain name is INT.ABC.COM. DNS domain is int.abc.com. But the Opensolaris server thinks the NETBIOS domain is INT: # smbutil status myserver Workgroup: INT Server: MYSERVER How can I set the NETBIOS domain on OpenSolaris, because it is not simply the first part of the AD domain name? PS. The real domainnames have been replaced for security reasons. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org _______________________________________________ cifs-discuss mailing list [email protected] http://mail.opensolaris.org/mailman/listinfo/cifs-discuss
