the content of the directory is the same. NDW was created by copying a folder
with the same ill behaviour. "Neuer Ordner" was created by windows explorer
"Create new folder" defaults in germany to "Neuer Ordner" (new folder)

the i copied the files from NDW to "Neuer Ordner" using mc on solaris.

btw: i'm able to rename NDW with windows explorer.

:-) NDW means "Neue Deutsche Welle" (Nena 99 Luftballons, music from the 80's)
of course there are Umlaute (äüö). better to say: should be. normally i have
not problems with umlaute. but in this folder they are broken.

NDW
00 M▒nchner Freiheit - M▒nschner Freiheit - Ohne Dich.mp3
00 M▒nchner Freiheit - M▒nschner Freiheit - So lang man Tr▒ume.mp3
00 M▒nchner Freiheit - M▒nschner Freiheit - Tausendmal Du.mp3

Neuer Ordner
00 M?nchner Freiheit - M?nschner Freiheit - Ohne Dich.mp3
00 M?nchner Freiheit - M?nschner Freiheit - So lang man Tr?ume.mp3
00 M?nchner Freiheit - M?nschner Freiheit - Tausendmal Du.mp3

correct would be
00 Münchner Freiheit - Münschner Freiheit - Ohne Dich.mp3
00 Münchner Freiheit - Münschner Freiheit - So lang man Träume.mp3
00 Münchner Freiheit - Münschner Freiheit - Tausendmal Du.mp3

NDW: ls -V
-rwxr-xr-x+ 1 reiner staff 3949120 Nov 23 21:52 00 M▒nchner Freiheit -
M▒nschner Freiheit - Ohne Dich.mp3
                 owner@:rwxpdDaARWcCos:fd-----:allow
              everyone@:r-x---a-R-c---:fd-----:allow
-rwxr-xr-x+ 1 reiner staff 4100839 Nov 23 21:52 00 M▒nchner Freiheit -
M▒nschner Freiheit - So lang man Tr▒ume.mp3
                 owner@:rwxpdDaARWcCos:fd-----:allow
              everyone@:r-x---a-R-c---:fd-----:allow
-rwxr-xr-x+ 1 reiner staff 3422909 Nov 23 21:52 00 M▒nchner Freiheit -
M▒nschner Freiheit - Tausendmal Du.mp3
                 owner@:rwxpdDaARWcCos:fd-----:allow
              everyone@:r-x---a-R-c---:fd-----:allow

permissons should be the same, because i used chmod -R in the top folder.

btw:
if (when?) i try to copy (or rename) with windows one of this M?nchner xxx.mp3
files from "Neuer Ordner" to my windows maschine, i get an error message
saying, that the job can't be done, because the filename is invalid or to long.
i think windows doesn't like the "?" in the name.
