Actually I already have the tower in the basement with a hardwired connection 
so no problem there.

My current server with a Gigabyte P45 chipset motherboard, 6 hard drives (5 of 
them are 1TB Seagate Barracuda LPs purchased recently) is only pulling 40W idle

The D-Link DNS-323 is using around 10-15W
