firstly, great work. i'm actually compositing, editing and adding effects
in a non-linear fashion on my favourite platform. this is quite a buzz.
i hope you don't mind, i'm going to reel off questions/comments as they
come to mind. it's very likely i've overlooked a few basics.
i'm driving:
//------------------------------------->
Debian testing/unstable
2.6.14
i386
ATI Radeon 9700 running fglrx
Cinelerra -v 2.0
//<-------------------------------------
1/
when i use the 'in point' and 'out points' to select a region for a cut
and paste operation, my transitions are maintained after a paste, but my 'title'
effects mysteriously vanish. why is this?
2/
on occassion Cinelerra will not stop playing when it reaches the last
frame in a track. it then rapidly rises to 99% CPU and is unreponsive
therein. at that point i have to kill the process.
3/
sometimes when i SHIFT-LMB to centre a fade handle, it locks to the
bottom of the track as opposed to vertically midway. it seems that the
mouse-over region itself is not always directly
under the cursor.
4/
i really like the widgets themselves. the overall colour-scheme is great
- not dissimilar to Lightwave, which i used to use alot many years ago.
things like bright-blue-on-grey as a highlight in the
file-selection dialogue aids navigation and looks good.
the icons however (while an jab at 'slick interfaces') are just bloody awful.
crayons aside, the icons in the Resources panel are gigantic on my 1400x1050
display.
i suppose i could get used to them, but adaptation is a good thing only some of
the time.
i see that under Settings-->Preferences-->Interface there is a drop-down
menu with one theme in it, the default theme. is it possible to produce
new icon-themes for personal use?
5/
RMB-->Show on the dissolve handle doesn't bring up any dissolve properties.
it simply doesn't respond. is this because there are none?
6/
a re-open last would be handy.
7/
when wanting to put the playhead at the beginning or end of an edit, i'm
usually in "copy and paste edit mode", so when i place my cursor on the
end of a track and click, it sometimes moves the beginning or end of the
track by a frame or two. is there an accurate and less risky way to move
the playhead to the beginning and end of a track? something like
'snap-to-end' comes to mind.
8/
it would be convenient for Frame Reverse (4) and Frame Forward (1)
buttons to allow for a LMB-hold mode that moves the playhead in the
respective direction. sometimes i'm looking for a particular frame and don't
know exactly where it is and i'd rather 'surf' the frames at times different
from the rates offered by playback. maybe i'm talking about a passive form of
scrubbing.
cheers,
Julian Oliver
