I'm not confident with already built packages taken from a place on the
internet which is not a "reliable source". Unless you could give me a
reliable source of already built packages. I talk about the last
versions of the SVN... I'd be interested in such an information.

I'm not a programmer. However, I promote Cinelerra on forums, and I
often put the Cinelerra icon on my videos (which are seen by tens of
thousands people). What I am really good at is photography, but I'm not
sure that would be of any interest for Cinelerra. What I could do is
taking a picture for the Cinelerra window which appears when Cinelerra
is launched? ;-)

I want to build it from SVN because I encounter a very big bug with
Cinelerra. I can't load any project when launching it from a "normal"
user. Cinelerra works when it's launched from the root account only.
Perhaps the problem comes from my configuration, from other programs on
my computer. I just don't know why. Since I don't get any clue, I
decided to built the latest SVN. That's the reason.

Now, I would like to precise my ideas, because I fear I did not
explained clearly the problem.
I REALLY appreciate the wonderful job Cinelerra SVN developpers do.
Cinelerra greatly improved since I used it for the first time. It works
really fine (well, at least when I launch it from the root account since
last WE ;-)). And this mailing-list is really active and useful. I
already get very useful help and information on this mailing-list, and
that's very very good!
I get a problem with the version of other programs needed for building
the latest SVN. I already built SVN 3 or 4 months ago, and I encountered
a problem with the x264 library, which some of you helped me to solved
on this mailing list. You gave me the URL where I could get that library
which I need to build Cinelerra, since it wasn't possible to deactivate
it when configuring Cinelerra.
Now, the version of autoconf and another program which are on my
computer aren't up to date.

That's why I give my opinion. I'm probably not the best person to give
my opinion, for sure. But doesn't user opinion is interesting sometime?
Perhaps what I wrote was totally unjustified, and I'm sure you know what
you're talking about, and I believe you.

But I'm surprised by the fact that compiling Cinelerra needs versions of
programs which aren't the ones which are shipped with a Debian SID
up-to-date. I do not encounter such problems when compiling other
programs. Generally Debian SID packages contains programs which version
is not that old.

I though "Hey, is that normal?" "Are developpers aware of that?"
I try to understand. Now, perhaps the versions of those programs are
needed because they are really important for the latest SVN versions.

Anyway, I don't want you to think I do not respect your work. I really
know some of you are really involved in developping Cinelerra SVN. And
thanks to your work, the SVN version is what it is now: a very good
video editor. Look at my messages I post on this mailing list. They
often finish with the word "Thanks". That the way for me to tell I
really appreciate your work, for developping a free and very good
software I often use.

I hope I clearly explained my opinion. My French is better than my
English, but I'm not sure you would understand me better. ;-)

Thanks.
Nicolas.
