look at bottom left, when you're in capture window of kino, if some message like "can't load modules or you have no permission to write...." appear, then you need load modules....

You can check, prior to issuing those commands, by running lsmod as root
to see if all three of those modules are loaded already.  The messages
you posted earlier from your logs suggest that at least ohci1394 is
loaded, as I believe it handles the device enumeration you posted for
the connection to your camera.

        OK, I seem to just have to working again.  Not sure why it wasn't nor
what I did to correct it, but I now have a clock running when I capture
and icons piling up in the storyboard area of Kino.  This means I now
have a lot of work to do this week.
