Actually the work on a new video editor like you say, this has already
started some months ago. Yes we call it 'Cinelerra3' so far, since it
will be done with cinelerra's spirit in mind. If anyone (especially
Heroine Virtual) objects on this nameing we will change the name.

It is Heroine Virtuals decision to run the project in any way he wants.
Granting it to the community under the GPL license is probably the
biggiest possible contribution. We have to respect his decision to keep
himself out of the community management. On the other side we have it
under GPL and we have all (gpl granted) rights to do with the project we
wan't. This *is* a hand over to the community. He didn't object on any
changes which where done on the community version and so far he didn't
object on the plan to rewrite and name the new one Cinelerra3. I also
think we can delay this decision until we can show a first useable
version, which is very far ahead.
The question "What is authentically cinelerra" is really unimportant,
the real questions are:
Where is the public developement done?
Cinelerra community
Who 'owns' cinelerra?
Each programmer has the copyright of the source he contributed to
What can we do with cinelerra?
Everything the GPL permits
Who decides about the future of cinelerra?
Anyone who contributes to the project
For me it is fair and important that we respect and credit Heroine
Virtual, even if not required under the terms of the GPL. Respect means
also to accept his decision not to nanny the community and that we can
and should move forward on our own.
