Hello Douglas,
first of all, I can assure you: we are starting out from Cinelerra,
because we think that Cinelerra's aproach and focus is basically right
- -- it just needs to be evolved, and we found no reasonable way to do
these obvious improvements with just fixing the existing code base.
The new (not-yet-named) app will have pro focus, will have the same
rendering architecture, etc. Just anything done more consequently.
Douglas, you said you fear it becomes like Premiere. It would be very
interesting for us to hear what you are afraid of!

Yes, I agree, the act of editing a movie is very much a musical thing.
And there are striking similarities to looking at an orchestral score..
Personally, I have the goal to get all those curve displays united.
I want to treat fade, camera, projector, zoom, crossfades and all the
plugin parameters by one united "parameter curve" view and editor.
The problem will be how to organize all these big number of different
curves. Partially, the display as overlayed curves is helpful, partially
it is confusing. But having lots of separate automation tracks (e.g.
like in Ardour) can be confusing too. Quite a challenge for the UI
design.
