How about having a small number of automation tracks
each containing some curves on one common scale (log/lin etc.)?

like, one track for camera / projector automation (6 curves),
one for brightness, contrast, saturation (3 curves),
one for sound level (one curve), etc?

display of each curve within one track could be toggled by checkboxes
and each track can be "expanded" or "collapsed" (e.g. right mouse button),
and all tracks can be "hidden" or "shown" by a global toggle.

as before, curves sharing one track can be distinguished by color,
and can be grouped by distinct but similar colors.
that would be artful from a filmmaker's perspective.
