Alternatively I've put the smaller footage (about 33 mb or so) on a

BTW: The clip is taken with a Samsung HMX-20C in 1080p25 (I hope...
at least, thats what I've set up...)

Here it worked fine, I'm using a debian etch, with ffmpeg package out of the box. The parameters were:

ffmpeg -i HDV_0016.MP4 -vcodec mjpeg -sameq -ab 14577k -aspect 16:9 -acodec pcm_s16be teste.mov

Thanks a lot, I'll try that out too.

When I edit HDV, this is pretty much what I do, or either uncompress it to a YUVPlanar or Uncompressed RGB format - this takes more space, yes, but I have a pentium 4HT with 2GB RAM, far far away from a idylic hdv-editing machine.

Do you *have* to use proxying support even with the mjpeg'ed hd files? I am totally new to hd video editing...so sorry for my questioning;-)
