I recommend *not* using Ubuntu 8.04 for any video editing work. It is
prehistoric! ;-) (nearly 3 years old, with no support for kde4).
Modern Ubuntu work very well with Cinelerra, especially 10.04.
You can install her with just 3 terminal commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:cinelerra-ppa/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install cinelerra
