Why not using Hardy? It's a LTS release and it is very stable, and it is not 
prehistoric. In fact, the cinelerra-ppa supports hardy just as more recent 
releases. If hardy works, why change? Maybe it's just me but I wouldn't change 
something that works.

I'd recommend just to install cinelerra on hardy from the ppa, using the 
commands you suggested.
