I had bad experiences with Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit. So went back to 10.04
(Studio 64 bit) and all works ok.
With an upgraded kernel all might be OK, but I don't have the luxury to
keep re-installing and backing out!!!
I am told that 10.10 32 bit is OK.

Hi Nicola!
Why not using Hardy? It's a LTS release and it is very stable, and it is
not prehistoric.
My opinion is based on my experience. I do workshops on creative works
with Free Software and I tested different labs with different Ubuntus.
In the past two years video editing (and graphics) applications had
such a fast development that Hardy is indeed already too old (e.g. you
can't have the latest Kdenlive).
I kept having so many issues (e.g. freezing interfaces, blank screens,
old or missing applications...) that I promised myself not to work or
teach on Hardy anymore.
Note also that Hardy will be supported just for the next 3 months and
the new LTS release is just a mouse click away.
That's why I don't recommend Hardy to people looking for a good distro
for video-editing.
Ciao!
Raffaella
