Yes, backward-compatibility can be prevented by running Greenfield mode, but I'm not sure if that's possible on the Cisco 1252.
802.11n clearly has the capability for a higher PPS than 802.11b/a/g if you fix the packet size, but I'm not sure what you mean about the processors.
