That's because the DFC can't be swapped out on this linecard. IIRC it's
physically part of the board.
Does anyone have any solid information about whether these cards
(which we have a lot of) will work with the new supervisors?
They will not, for the reason above.
However, the 6716 can be upgraded to a DFC4.
